FOUR SUITS.

FIFTY-TWO CARDS.

ONE MURDER MYSTERY.

In the hands of a skilled magician, a simple, everyday deck of cards transforms into a vessel of wonder and (im)possibility, so it’s little surprise that for almost as long as there have been cards, there have been card tricks.

Seen through the eyes of some of the world’s best sleight-of-hand artists, Lost in the Shuffle is a multi-faceted look at this remarkable 400-year relationship that’s seen these simple playthings provide an endless source of miraculous inspiration for magicians throughout time.

“Will the greatest illusion of all prove to be that an ancient cold-case murder has been hiding under our noses all this time?”

World champion and fourth-generation magician, Shawn Farquhar, has been surrounded by cards for as long as he can remember, but after a trip to France that he wondered why the court cards look the way they do. Of particular interest was the King of Hearts, also known as the “Suicide King” because he appears to be stabbing himself in the head.

Shawn believes there is a much more sinister story, that an actual medieval French king was assassinated at the hand of his own wife. Now Shawn is out to see if his theory’s true - will the greatest illusion of all prove to be that an ancient cold-case murder has been hiding under our noses all this time?

RICHARD TURNER

If you ever find yourself at a poker table with American Richard Turner, you’d better just pack up your chips and leave. Referring to himself as a “card mechanic” rather than a magician, he has nonetheless won several Close-Up magician of the year awards thanks to his unparalleled ability to manipulate, shuffle and deal out a deck. But what makes all of Richard’s accomplishments truly incredible is that he is blind – and has been since contracting a degenerative retinal disease when he was nine. Sought out by mobsters and Hollywood film directors alike, he has a card closet at home which is regularly filled with about 6,000 decks, a number which sounds crazy until you consider that he wears through several decks a day.

MICHAEL VINCENT

Michael Vincent is a British magician who has won The Magic Circle’s Close-up Magician of the Year award three times and earned a lifetime membership in the club’s elite Inner Magic Circle. Picking up the magic bug at age 6, he gave his first performance at 14. He gained world wide attention after two successful performances on Penn & Teller’s “Fool Us” TV series. Then in 2011, Michael suffered sudden, mysterious hearing loss overnight and was faced with the prospect of his career ending if he could no longer banter with his audience. But he persevered, taught himself to lip read, and continues to amaze and astound audiences around the world with his card magic.
